Yellow squash in a container

I am just testing out container gardening with beans and a yellow squash. Beans are fine, but I don't know if the squash needs a lot of water, minimal water. The squash are plentiful and bloom then never grow to maturity. They either wither or get a black mold on it. So, too much water or not enough? Any help? I guess I should mention that I live in central Florida.
