"yes if you sticking it in the ground to gain larger root mass and stem thickening a flat rock will do just fine,make sure the extra soil added is of a quick draining type. ed"

"I read some where that putting a flat rock underneath helps keep the roots flat for a shallow container. I was thinking about doing this also. "

"Did you creat this one yourself ? It looks like a juniper forest, I would like to do this with Redwood trees. Having a hard time finding info for Coastal Redwood trees."
