Ground Hog Day - Spring Around the Corner

Posted on February 2, 2012 at 9:48pm 0 Comments

Ground Hog day. Spring is close and I can feel it coming on. What to do? Remain calm I have 6 more weeks.

I am starting to look at some of my beds that need mulch and wondering what my first move will be.  I have a utility trailer and the transfer station sells it really cheap. (5.00 a front end load). So between now and the next couple of weeks I am planning on getting really dirty one day.

Each year the hummingbirds come to South Texas in September. It is a beautiful thing and each time I see them I get excited.  Love my birds!…

Rain in South Texas

Posted on September 16, 2011 at 9:34pm 3 Comments

I am compelled to write that we actually got rain today in South Texas after 60 plus days without.  We only got about 1/4 of an inch, but we will take anything we can get.  Keep your fingers crossed as we may get some more next week. Trying to save all my plants and lawn and this point.  Every bit counts.

Should the tree stay or go?

Posted on January 18, 2011 at 4:30pm 3 Comments

I am really stuck with this tree.  It is a beautiful tree, but it is really close the house and hangs over also.  Should I take it out or trim it back?  These trees live to be 1000 plus years old.  I am also thinking about trimming it and letting it go.....too much beauty, but it will hurt my foundation.  Help me decide...please.…

Blooming Agave

Posted on November 8, 2010 at 10:00am 4 Comments

I have heard that after an agave plant blooms that they then die. Wondering if anyone knows if this is true with all agave plants? If so how long does it take for them to die. Can you do anything to help them to keep going?

Happy to be a part of a group that loves to garden.  It's 26 degrees here in St. Paul, Minnesota.  I decorated the large 'Flowering Crabtree' out in the front yard today with many white lights for Christmas.  Also hung some boughs around the front windows. My home was built in 1928.  I usually try to "Play-Up the OLD" instead of trying to add a contemporary look.  I put a spotlight in the ground facing the house.  I like to prop up "OLD" sleds from the 30's-40's across the front porch, an old pair of ice skates and maybe a hockey stick.  Just hope they don't get stolen.

Hi John!  Sorry I've been offline job-hunting and responded so late to the friend request.  I am so in love with your tree pictures and can't get over how incredible they are!  Look forward to more!
