Memory Garden

Posted on July 14, 2009 at 2:48pm 1 Comment

Like most gardeners, I've had certain people in my life that nurtured and encouraged my interest. One of my gardening mentors passed away last week. My aunt was 84 years old, and she put her vegetable garden in the first week in June. She is no longer here to harvest it, but I know she would be pleased that her daughter will have the fruits of her labor. If you are a gardener, you are a gardener till the end. The garlic I grow every year is from heads that she gave me. I look around my garden… Continue

Leeann, the eggplant variety is "Sicilian" ,that is according to my Dad. He said it is what is written on the tags when he purchased them.

Thanks for the comments about my cannas. We have some leaf damage this year....about the same as most years. Not sure if its beetles...I always refer to them as no-see-ums.....I see the damage but I never see who or what is doing it!! =D

Yes, you do need to thin them out. I go in spurts on whether I like them or not. I did leave some in for height and when I get tired of them I cut them off!

I see that you are a master gardener. I am starting the classes this fall and I can't wait! There is always so much to learn about gardening.

I am definitely familiar with Lily of the Valley. It is less than a mile from me. In fact I am taking my seven year old grandson there today because he wants to plant some herbs in his garden. He would like to walk there which I do but one road is to busy and the other to narrow for me to feel comfortable with a little guy. It is a fun place and if I remember right their plants are 20% off starting June 26th. They actually had some new things this year that I have never seen before!

Hi Leeann! My husband and I were in Pa today. We went to the outlet mall in Grove City. Don't think that we were to far from you because I saw Sharon on one of the signs. We were luck to dodge the rain. It was beautiful there today.
