Where does time go?

I cant believe it's been almost a year since I've been on the site. A lot has happened and not all in the gardens. My oldest daughter had a son, my first grandchild, caedan, and it's been wonderful. My gardens did well this past year and I actually mulched many of the beds nearest the house and entrance. Having so many gardens I cannot afford to mulch them all. I thinned out the bee balm and threw out some of the worst of the spreaders. I am trying to simplify my gardens. Cannot wait for spring…See More

Well today it hit 63 degrees in upstate ny. not a cloud in the sky and just a hint of a breeze. after all my work and running around, I managed to get out into the gardens closest to the house and do some raking. much to my surprise the leaves came away without being frozen to the ground and little green heads were poking through the dirt. now i hope the temps dont fall too far!! I thought I had taken care of most of the leaves last fall and now I wonder where the ones I raked,… Continue

cutting!

Posted on August 9, 2009 at 2:12pm 0 Comments

last week we had so much rain and it was so hard at times, that I have started cutting down plants that refuse to stand. This week was just like summer - no rain temps in the 70-80's - beautiful but alas the rain has come back today. The colors have faded, maybe because of the constant rain. slowly the bee balm is being cut down as well as the yarrow, phlox, and queen of the prairie. It's sad. I did manage to cut up some sod in the front yard and put in some plants I was thinning out from the… Continue

my disappointment is beyond belief...yes it is raining and we are having flooding. yesterday was so nice out I actually got to spend the whole day outside and do some serious gardening, weeding and deadheading, but most of the bee balm, cleome, false sunflowers, phlox and anything tall is lying on the ground - boo hoo - Can hardly walk through the paths without getting soaked and stepping over everything. It looks awful...and it is supposed to rain again most of sunday. I realize there are… Continue

wouldn't guess it but it's raining ...again and it is supposed to happen the rest of the week into sat and maybe sunday! pooh!

last night with time on my hands (a dangerous thing my husband would say) I decided I was tired of the garden on the house side of the walkway. It is about 10' by 3' and runs alongside the house under a small picture window in the den. right now there are the orange roadside daylilies, some bishop weed, a small bleeding heart, some false sunflowers (I think) that… Continue

It seems as though the entire gardens have exploded in all their color and finery at the same time!! yesterday the gooseneck wasn't there and then today it seemed to have opened. The hummers are out in force on the bee balm and there always seems to be a fight between them (vicious little creatures) and if I stand still long enough they will hover within arms reach - sooo cool! The queen of the prairie looks like pink cotton candy and the daylilies continue to blossom! even the knock out roses… Continue

They were last summer. Please note that they are not on my property, but at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, Washington. There is a special place in their gardens area where they are all planted in a grouping. It's so intriguing to see them like that, and you just can't help but take pictures.

Hello from one upstate New Yorker to another. Thank you for commenting on my dahlia photos. Even though I often miss New York, I have come to appreciate the beautiful things (such as these flowers) that I have out here. Somehow, that seems to make it a little easier for me to live so far away from familiar territory.

So why didn't YOU go to Mackinac Island with your family? You would LOVE it, there are such cute little gardens in all the front yards of those big Victorian type homes... it's my favorite place to go.

Lisa,
All the plants are mine except the two of the peonies, the white flowering bush with the bee, and the Dogwood tree. They belong to my good friend who lives close by. Since nature (garden) photography has by my life long hobby I included the photos I took in her garden this spring.

Hi Lisa,
Thanks for visiting my garden. I am overwhelmed by yours. So many beautiful flowers...and your gardens are wonderful. What a wonderful surrounding you have made for yourself. How many dogs??? I think I counted 4...
I have a tiny garden now...I live in a retirement mobile home community...so I only have a small amount of space on one side...but as you can see I do pack a lot into it. Right now I am enjoying my butterfly bushes and all the butterflies, bees, hummingbirds and other assorted flying insects.
