wholeed commented on Marianne Barrowman's group Composting & Vermicomposting (worms)
"My bad. WalMart's trout and panfish worms are actually "European nightcrawlers" (Eisenia Hortensis) -- a good endogeic/composting worm. I got a bunch of these from Beaver Bait Company a few years ago. They were importing them air…"

wholeed commented on Marianne Barrowman's group Composting & Vermicomposting (worms)
"I know it's heresy, but brandling worms (Eisenia foetida) are about the least desirable species of worm available.  They are an epigeic species, meaning they feed on the organic matter atop the soil (the duff layer) and breed like crazy…"

wholeed replied to Horace Miller's discussion Composting Bin Designs in the group Composting & Vermicomposting (worms)
"I've never seen a compost heap that was getting too much air (too small, maybe -- but never too much air).  Bins are entirely for purposes of neatness and appearance. They're not necessary at all, and most of them are worse than…"

"I'm trying borage for the first time this year.  It's a companion plant for tomatoes that has edible leaves and sweet edible flowers used on desserts.  Also acts as a trap plant for tomato hornworms."

No, I don't even know what "groups" are yet. I am in college full time and it is close to finals, so I really haven't had time to peruse yet. I will though and I'm excited about it. I just planted my flower garden and am working on my food garden, so I hope to find alot of helpful information on here. We'll talk soon I hope, Dee
