I am already in full fall mode because if I wait I would never get everything done. I am at the trimming/pruning stage now and I actually enjoy the process. I usually prune all of my bushes by one third or more depending on what it is and when it blooms. My roses get dead headed unless they produce nice rose hips, then I leave them alone. Some perennials get cut down now, giving them a chance to produce a nice low carpet of green (shasta daisys etc), some are left until the first frost kills the tops and then they are cleaned up and mulched. I do a lot of planting in the fall and already have quite a few plants in my holding area awaiting planting. I love to go to nurseries this time of year and buy perennials, trees, shrubs etc for little cost because they don't look very nice right now but they will shine next year. I have a lot to do in my garden and want to get a lot done before the leaves begin to fall, when that starts I am to busy raking to do anything else, I have huge oaks, big leaf maples, cotton wood, etc. that drop huge carpets of leaves, I can leave some of the leaves in my flower beds but not on my extensive green areas. Did I say I enjoy this time of year? I really do, even though it's a lot of work. The trees are just beginning to turn a bit, the naked ladies, asters, mums etc. are all in bloom and the pumpkins are ready to pick. I love fall, besides it's football season.
