Hypertufa Planters & other concrete projects

I recently attended a gardeners show where I attended a seminar on making concrete fossil stones and hypertufa containers. hypertufa is a mix of quickcrete, sand, vermiculite and peat moss. It makes a concrete that looks worn and aged. Does anyone have any good ideas for interesting form materials? I did see the use of wicker baskets which looked kind of cool.

Hi Stacy, I made hypertufa "pots" several years ago and had a wonderful time. I took some leaves from my banana tree bush and lined a silicone bucket with them. Then I filled a trash bag with sand, set it in the center of the silicone bucket and filled in between the bag and bucket with the mixture. The finished product had the leaf imprint and looked really cool. Another good idea is to use a laundry basket or a wicker basket, they make great impressions. I've also made butterfly watering dishes with the leaves and hypertufa mix by molding the leaf over a mound of sand, covering with plastic wrap and spreading the mixture over this. Good luck and Happy Hypertufering!
