I had to drive a couple hours today to the wake of one of my many uncles who passed away last week. 11 children in my mother's family and Phil was the second to last surviving brother-in-law. Five uncles gone in the last nine years including my father. It was a time of reuniting with many relatives paying their respects and also a time of reflection as one cant help but do when there is a death.

I have trouble staying awake when I drive and with my knee problems driving wasnt very comfortable. To stay awake I found myself daydreaming as I drove west home into the setting sun. Such a pretty one too. Soft pastel colors swiped low across the horizon silhouetting the farm buildings and trees. My mind turned to all my plans for my garden this spring. I passed a huge pile of rock in a cornfield...taking note so I could come back in a few months. I knew right where I wanted some nice sized ones. I pictured the colors of all the new lilies I wanted to plant, mabye a climbing rose, the new statue I have been searching for, surrounded by my cat sculptures. Before I knew it I had managed to drive 75 minutes without fighting off sleep once.

I need more quiet time so I can day dream again

It is all relative. Laughing, mine are no where near to what is seen posted here. I'm like you, I thought I was holding my own. Uh, not so! Well, at least to the new standards that have been realized through the photos found here. Geesh! At one time, not so long ago, I thought if I had a good stand of zinnias I was doing a mighty fine job!

Oh dont say that MJ. I used to think pretty highly of my gardens and that is probably because I am the only one for blocks around my area that does anything. I can not believe some of the gorgeous gardens most have on this site. But I keep reminding myself that even though mine is on the bottom of the scale, it is mine and it reflects who I am and what I like. Maybe if I had more time, money and the strength I had ten years ago, it would look diff. So I bet yours IS  a nice garden. It is all relative dont cha know. Looking forward to your pictures

For some the holidays takes a lot of time to plan and get things around. Personally, that is not so true. I meant to say the gardeners who are more serious than I am, or have that knack of the mind's eye to see what they need to plant and what the end results will be, put in a lot of time.

Our health, even if it is only a knee, makes the difference in the world. I broke a toe before Christmas and just that has made a difference in most everything. Like the knee, a toe is part of the support and movement. So, here's to your health and the prospect of good knees to work out in the garden.

Lawn mowing, I use an old reel push mower for the most part. I try to burn as many calories as I can. I'll send you a few pitiful lawn photos. I must say what I thought to be a nice garden has been blown away by the real gardeners on this list.

Thank you MJ. So are you saying the holiday takes up much time or planning for a garden? It does take lots of time (both) but it is my idea of having fun. I dont socialize much and if I'm not working I'd rather be in the garden. Been years since I have been able to tackle mine just because of my knee issues. Praying this spring will be different. hehehe Post pics of your mowed lawns!!!

Sorry to read of the death in the family.

Happy to read of the plans for your garden. This holiday weekend I realized this takes so much time. I have been a great one with the lawn mower. There are many talented gardeners on this Index. I hope you keep us posted with photos and blogs as how things progress in your garden.
