This I wrote in reply to a comment about one of my pictures. I thought it would make a good blog comment as well.
"We have lived here for 25 years. When the kids were old enough that they did not need constant supervision, I began to play in the dirt. The gardens are a labor of love that has taken about 20+ years to plant. Gardening is a journey, I never feel like I have finally arrived. It takes time and trial and error. Just when you think you are getting to a place where you are really pleased with the result, nature can through you a curve ball. For me it was drought. Then health issues and work that put me on the back burner for a couple years. What you see in my pictures took many years to achieve. With the neglect of recent years it has declined. This year I am trying to restore it some and make it more manageable for me. Be patient. Gardening isn't an instant reward. It takes time and a lot of hard work. When I am discouraged at the condition of the gardens, a visitor will come and tell me how lovely it is. It is a matter of finding the joy in the journey! Happy gardening."
