Earlier I was putting christmas lights in my make-shift greenhouse. My 14 year old calls it my getto gazebo. Found 4 huge tree black pots and placed 2 archways adjacent from each other to form dome shaped arch. Covered it with plastic tarps and one of our old dome tents.  Then added the christmas lights around inside and throughout some of the plants. I think this is going to work especially with those old type of Christmas lights since they give off quite a bit of heat. I'll see with up coming freezes if my make-shift greenhouse worked.

I like the idea with the steelposts from bulding sites, I have one certainly will keep my eye open , also use the insulation sheets ,builders are really waistful, and they are waterproof , lots of uses, I picked them up for a insulation job for a chookie house not yet build of for that matter dogkennel, i want to make one but so the dog can lay init anywhich way he wants, I dont go on the shopbought ones , they look so uncomfortable wouldn,t give you a coin for it , if you want to make a hothouse or such like, get 3/4 starstakes polypipe bend  it over the stakes and fasten than hunt for plastic that doesn,t disintegrate , yes you can get it , drape it over use shadecloth as door , beige shadecloth wont attract locusts or other ones wrong colour for them, as a insert on your screendoor they cant look in from the outside its much much harder more privacy!, thanks for actually mentioning the name of this bar i neve knew it before , rebar! I have so many ideas and experiences I could write for ages , we greenies should find out how many of us live in close proximity and arrange a meeting of like minded ones from the gardeners index I think this would be fantastic, they still do confests, something like that or similar it would be haven and so many new friendships would result! any feedback on this please !

Well, if I post the pic. Will it come on the homepage? I would like it just to my blog. Ahhh, I just found the pic symbol. I will get something up since you all want to see it. Really, it is truly getto. LOL

There is no real beauty in this construction. It's just something to keep my plants surviving. However, I am in TX so our freezes are only in the 20s. Nothing below zero.

Tip for stakes for Lisa!  New construction sites will sometimes have left over rebar (concrete reinforcing rods) in 1/2 inch diameter (or 3/4 for a big project).  They are usually 8 ft. long and last forever.  Lowe's also sells them pretty inexpensively.  Pick a few up a year and after a few years you will have no more need to scrounge for them.  I have been using the ones I have for 15 years now.  They rust, naturally, but that poses zero problem and is actually a good thing because ties don't slide up and down them.

OH, dear, I would be so embarrassed by my getto gazebo. Frankly, it's my test subject. I'm working on plans for a revised version this spring. If I do it, I will definitely be posted.

Take a picture and post it here!  I would be interested in seeing your ghetto gazebo!
