I've been spending the week taking out the old and exhausted and planting the new.  Instead of pulling old plants, I cut them off and lay them in a row and fold the soil back over them.  After pulling soil that has collected from the sides and corners on top of the material...I plant!

It works.  This piling method keeps my soil from compacting and gives more room.

My plants are filling in finally making it easy to keep moist...even in this unprecedented heat!
