There is something about pebbles that draw kids of all ages. With this idea in mind, I have decided that one element I want to put in my garden this coming summer is a pebble mosaic. Something whimsical that would draw a child in... regardless of their age. Perhaps something that includes dribbling water and other fun elements.

It was all inspired by my granddaughter, Tando this past summer, as she discovered rocks, and gravel & water & green things. Watching her discover the garden in all its diversity & the many aspects of "yard" we all take for granted helped me see the garden from a small one's perspective. So I'd like to make DISCOVERY something that even the littlest visitor to my yard can enjoy...and in the process, just perhaps bring out the kid in a few big people too!

Yes, I think it fantastic to see how shapes & colors draw children in the garden & yard. I also discovered that Glass reflective globes can be an "issue" as the little ones see them as balls to be tossed! Almost long my large blue glazing ball last weekend to a visiting toddler! It was an educational moment for both of us! I need to find a way to make those glass spheres HEAVY so little hands can't easily pick them up!

Now its a matter of selecting some suitable pattern to make. Something that will draw people into it. I think I might start with something from fairy tales. It would be fun to use some images that you dont see as often now days that would hark back to fairy tale stories. I'm thinking the narrow shade garden would be a great place to start, where a narrow patch of pebbles could be laid down which entices a child to follow the pattern to something magical & intriguing. Any suggestions? I've also been working on a gate to the "secret garden" that wouldn't look like a gate but would be one that is itself a surprise.
