A little surprise this afternoon - walked out to my backyard and out of the corner of my eye - not 3 feet away came a red fox, about as large as a medium sized dog! He didn't seem to mind me much just watched for awhile and then slipped into the greenery. At least he did not seem aggressive.  We've been seeing more of them in our urban neighborhood.   My only hope is that they don't become a bigger nuisance than the racoon that tore through my patio screen and desecrated my fish/turtle pond.   We're in an area of parks and green spaces, so the wildlife find their home among us.  Funny being just 30 minutes from downtown Miami all the critters that live here.  Yesterday morning, the Myna birds were sitting on the power lines talking away in their garbled way.  They were escapees from Miami Metro Zoo (now Zoo Miami) after 1992's Hurricane Andrew.

Wow Bonnie.  I grew up in the Pacific NW just outside of Tacoma.  We were surrounded by forests, but I don't recall ever seeing foxes.  I'm just so surprised to be now living in a very urban environment and have these animals show up in the yard.  We encourage wild life, so it's all good!

Glad you're watching out for the lil' critter.  They are so enjoyable to watch  (as long as you don't have chickens...)  They are such a peaceful animal.  Yes, Sharon, we do have first hand knowledge; we live in the middle of a forest and are very active with the Conservation Department here.

Here's a photo I managed to take through the screen yesterday.  The Fox arrived late in the afternoon.

Sharon, you won't have to worry about foxes making mischief like raccoons do, they've very quiet and timid animals.  They will stealthly eat any food you leave out and then just as stealthly vanish again.  They are as curious as cats and prefer to remain aloof.   I love foxes!  It is always a wonderful surprise to catch a glance of one before it slips away.
