The gardeners big delemma, To plant or not to plant...

Just kidding their really is never a question with me. The question is what to plant. Rainy days can be very dangerous for me. I generally go on the p/c and look for things to plant, new ideas and how to's. So living in New England especially this year the weather man has given me this opportunity to surf. I have a new flower bed going in in the front of the house, something I haven't done in 8 yrs. We did have some shrubs their but because of the pitch of my roof the winter snow destoyed them. So that will be project #1.This area does have a special requirement, it gets morning shade and full afternoon sun. Any suggestions would be very helpfull.:)
I've also purchace 2 flower crabapple trees, because of the ice storms we had this past weather my birch trees, all 5 of them were destroyed. Living in New England can be hard on plants. Now I found some trees that love my conditions here, I've seen them at different flower shows and fell in love with them. They're called Dawn Redwood, Metasequoia Glyptostroboidesa . Has anyone else seen or have these tree's. I'll be picking them up this friday. Can't wait to get planting. As you can see I'll have alot to do for a while. Good gardening to all of you.
