Comment by Lorie Bowlin Friedmann on June 6, 2012 at 1:25am Excellent raised beds, I particularly like that you used recycled "Amish" lumber. In my Tucson garden I used cement blocks and laid cement pavers on top. A real pain to dig down and level, but worth it. I, too battled bermuda grass by keeping the pathways clear from weeds getting into the beds. It was one of the my best gardens. Since moving to Phoenix, I've switched to gardening in horse troughs to keep desert rabbits out. And the next challenge was to tent and cover one with bird netting to keep thirsty birds from eating the tomatoes - but, now the netting and vines to tackle...
Comment by Donna L Burks on May 19, 2012 at 9:04am Nice raised beds. We recycled scrap lumber from construction sites to build ours. Not as pretty as the cedar lumber but it works. Have had much more success in keeping the weeds down using raised beds. We also tacked lanscaping fabric to the bottom to keep the weeds out. It keeps the beds virtually weed free and allows the water to drain freely. Nice job on yours!
